Unpacking the Practical Hindrances to Hearing God
Consider This:
If someone speaks to you in a language you don’t recognize,
do you automatically assume that they aren’t communicating?
I’m currently writing a series of articles themed around hearing God. I kicked it off with Can We Hear God?, where I suggested the clear and common-sense understanding that hearing God—from an identity of dependence—is an organic part of being human.
If we can agree that hearing God is participating in ongoing interaction and communication with the Holy Spirit, then to NOT hear God is to miss out on the fullness of life he intends for us.
I also highlighted that this topic has unfortunately devolved into a polarized theological argument—which is distracting us from the most important issue:
Our greatest concern shouldn’t be
defining how God speaks.
Our concern should be
understanding how we hear.
In the Can We Hear God? article, I laid out two primary reasons we don’t hear God:
We’re NOT READY to hear him.
We DON’T KNOW HOW to hear him.
